• The lineup for Commencement will begin at 10 a.m.
• Do not take cell phones, beepers, pagers, bags, purses, hand items, children and keys in the Processional.
• Chewing gum, candy and other food items are not allowed.
• Watch your liquid intake and the eating of sweet, acidic or spicy foods on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
• You are to walk with pride; hands on the side of the body. Look confident.
• When you process into the building, you are to remain facing the direction in which you came until all have processed in. A chord will be played signaling when to turn and a second chord signaling when to sit.
• The marshals are your guide for the ceremony.
• Males are to take off their hats when the colors are posted; keep them off until it is time to get your degree conferred.
• The deans will present you to the President; after Dr. Warmack says “with all rights appertaining thereto,” you will turn right and face the marshal and move into the aisles and proceed to the stage. You will give your dean your name-card.
• After the benediction, a musical chord will be played signaling when to stand and a second chord signaling when to turn for the recessional. Follow the marshals. They will guide you from the rows.
• Young ladies are reminded to wear white dresses and/or white suits and/or white skirt and blouses, flesh-tone hosiery, and black shoes (toe-in). The white garment should not hang below the academic robe. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum.
• Young men are reminded to wear dark trousers, dark shoes, dark socks, dark ties and white shirts.
Enrollment Management Information
• Honor candidates may pick up honor stoles immediately after rehearsal in extreme left rear corner. The staff will assist you.
• Academic honors – Summa Cum Laude is 3.90-4.00; Magna Cum laude is 3.75-3.89; Cum Laude is 3.50-3.74. Transfer or Continuing Education students who enter with an advanced standing are eligible for graduation with Magna Cum Laude or Cum Laude honors under the same grade-point ratio required of regular students.
• If you would like to pick up your diploma on Saturday after the ceremony, you may report to: (a) Tingley Hall, first floor. The Tingley Hall Conference Room will be open from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; (b) if you want your degree mailed, please send an e-mail to email@example.com and/or firstname.lastname@example.org with the your address; or (c) you may pick up the degree Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the office of Enrollment Management.
• Please be reminded, if you fail any major courses you will not be issued your diploma. If you have a financial obligation to the University, you will not be issued your diploma on Saturday.
• The door at the Seventh-day Adventist Worship Center will open at 9 a.m. Please do not hold seats on Saturday morning. They are to fill from the middle out. A host or hostess will guide you to your seating.
• All attendees – including children and the physically challenged – must have tickets to enter the center.
• Graduation is an important event in the lives of our students. Please remember in a graduation ceremony, any unsolicited applause, catcall, whistle or other type of noise is inappropriate.
• You may take personal pictures on the stage after the program.
